I had a customer once who bought brand new servers for internal office use. From the outside, the servers looked sparkling new and perfect. Being Windows servers, the customer opened the Windows performance task bar and all looked perfectly fine. Then he hooked up a IT Monitoring software as he wanted to peel further into the health status of the servers.  Upon discovery of his servers, he went into new buyer shock. In one of the servers, the IT monitoring software shows that onee out of the four fans in the server wasn't working.  This meant that the 3 fans were working harder to compensate for that one fan that wasn't working. This could lead to a series of unfortunate cascading event of all fans to stop spinning, leading to a potential server failure. As it was a new server under warranty, he promptly requested for his reseller to replace the server.

I was looking for curtains for my new house. In today's consumer market, the curtains sellers will put up flyers in the lifts of newly bought flats. We decided to call two. The first one came with a travel luggage with 8 catalogs of curtain samples. In 2017, I have encountered lots of request to do bandwidth monitoring.  When the network is slow or congested, IT managers would usually look to monitor the bandwidth.  Bandwidth monitoring can be done in two ways. 1. Via SNMP SNMP, or Simple Network Management Protocol, allows IT manager to monitor bandwidth consumption of devices at port level.  The pros of this method is that it is easy to setup.  The cons is that what is seen is bandwidth utilisation out of the port only. IT managers won't be able to identify where it is going or coming from. 2. Via Flow technology Some switches and routers have Flow technology installed.  Flow technology allows to identify more details of the bandwidth consumption. How would I sell you this pen? I see lots of linkedin posts about selling pens these days. Looks like there is drum up demand for pen salespeople. On a serious note, if I will gauge your interest in getting a pen. By doing so, I would be asking why you need this pen. From the answer, I probably be able to gauge your interest. You need this pen because you need to sign lots of documents. So probably I will introduce you to a pen that would write and last longer than other pens. Or you need a write upside down or write in zero gravity. In this scenerio, I would probably introduce you to a pencil instead. If you just want to find out more about the pen, or just window shopping for a pen, I would still take time to intro you to some pens, but I wouldn't count on you for a sale. No one likes IT or Network downtime, especially your end users. In today's IT dependent work place, there's a lot expected from the IT manager. Zero IT downtime is one of them. But what if the end user becomes the alert system for the downtime? Shit can hit the fan. I had a potential lead whose CEO couldn't send an email because a switch went down. The switch automatically recovered in a minute or two. However, the CEO was extremely frustrated during that 60 secs that he asked his IT to do a full incident report on the cause of the downtime, the resolution and prevention. Productive hours gone down the drain because of a minute of IT downtime.
