I was asked yesterday if I have heard of news of local IT SIs and resellers busy with dealing with the Petya ransomware. The good news is that I didn't hear of anything.
How about the Singapore based WPP offices since their group chief information officer announced that the advertising and creative agency was hit by the Petya ransomware?
Wrote Campaign Asia,
A "massive global malware attack" has hit the world's largest advertising company and its agencies. The issue arose overnight, Asia time, and sources within WPP in Asia have confirmed this morning that it continues to affect the company's computer networks. Email is still getting through to employees via smartphones.
After the reported Wannacry incident, I am well aware that most Singapore SMEs have been asking their SIs to patch their severs, in particular those running on Windows OS. There are some who have went to the extend of manually disabling the SMB file transfer Windows feature to be on the safe side.
Good that an earlier ransomware incident created the urgency for SMEs to put into a place security to prevent future ransomware attacks.
For those who are still not on board, why are you waiting?
